I watched Michael Moore's film Bowling for Columbine a few days ago. In the movie Mr. Moore depicts how American News is full of violent paranoia induced broadcasts over and over again. Robbery, crime, assault, rape all can be seen within ½ of a news broadcast.
At the time I had seen that I began to reflect. If you want to know what the largest YouTube hits and most favorite categories are they are not of crime and war they are more or less good-natured Americans enjoying life. They are of animals. They are of moments in our life that bring us enjoyment singing, family, and children. All in good fun, sometimes goofy, sometimes creative, but Nonetheless a option of what people these days prefer to watch. There is no advertising on YouTube for the most part. There is no gimmick no hype or build up. There is just a situation and if someone has an emotional reaction to it they will pick to share it with their friends. There is a conjecture these get millions and millions of hits, because these miniature snippets make us feel good.
News North Korea
On Newscasts we the people cannot make that determination we would like to be updated with happenings in the area and are then subdued to approx 20 minutes of all the drama that occurred while the day. A home invasion, A drug bust, crime in our neighborhood... Ordinarily a small feel-good piece then the weather and sports.
With few people controlling the media there is miniature wonder why this is the case. Take Nbc for example.... You have Nbc local, Msnbc, Cnbc (three cut off channels) but the same Ceo controlling what is seen and what is not. Murdoch owns Fox and Disney own their own subject of Networks. A total of 4 persons control our News and data (excluding the internet) but with Aol owned by Time Warner doesn't the Web seem like it's heading that way too.
So should news outlets not get a clue when a dancing kitten gets millions of hits that this is what American needs. Not necessarily Dancing Kittens but I think you get the idea. How about the people that succeeded throughout the day...the stories of victories, the homes that were purchased or donated, a spotlight on non-profits, good things politicians have done (there are some), Success stories, stories of bravery, and heroism. Spotlight the good in humans. I understand for public awareness there needs to be some degree of exposure but wouldn't this make the world and our country seem a miniature better.
Now comes the saving of the Chilean Miners. There is no finger pointing, there is no look to blame, and there is no sponsorship. This is a story of human survival, human strength, and human heroism. The way the world should be seen. Amid all of this it has been picked up by the World. The World watches along with North Korea whom we fault for lack of media and censorship.
Imagine if this was an American Story. There none the less would be Marketing Promotions all over. The Miners Would wear Adidas Windcreakers as they are brought up by a crane sponsored by an guarnatee business riddled with Logo's ( I can see it now, "picking you up when you are down". The Glasses would have a Ray Ban logo. They would be carried in a bucket labeled Kfc as they advertise their new 3.33 meal deal.. They would be given "Chile Miner 33" hats that would soon be sold on Qvc, shout out " I'm going to Disney world ". There would be a pop-up on our television informing us of the new Miner Series advent out in two weeks based on a concentrate of miners who Fall down a well after a terrorist attack, turn into vampires, and flee to fight corrupt government spies and compete in Dancing competitions.... Don't miss Deep Bites in 3-D the screen would flash.
When younger and having no clue I watched a Children's series The Great Space Coaster. One of the segments was Gary Gnu. At the end of each broadcast he would sign off by saying' "This Is Gary Gnu. And The No Gnews Is Good Gnews Show. The Only Tv Gnews schedule Guaranteed To contain No Gnews Whatsoever." Maybe we would be a miniature better off this way.
American Media Could Learn From Miner recovery in ChileRelated : todays world news headlines
