"Sardonic" captures the essence of the irony, production for bitter humor - the most notorious abusers of human possession in a world of conscience-less brutality: Libya, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc., all members of the Human possession Council (a conclave of 47 countries under the aegis of the United Nations), keeping forth on condemnation of faulted countries - and have now targeted their newest victim, the United States of America. The irony is, of course, that everybody knows that America, for nearly a century, has been the original protector of pitiful abuse-target-individuals the world over, as well as being the original soldiery protector of the world against brutal dictatorships. The liberal idealists that had watched in silence the abuse heaped upon Israel (clearly the most humane and tolerant, democratic country in a Mid-East, intolerant of all peoples not Muslim) for a half-century, can now see, first-hand, how twisted the vaunted United Nations has come to be as a vehicle once conceived as leading humanity to an enlightened civilization.
The harangue against the Us lasted for two hours: that the Us discriminates against Muslims; that its police and soldiery use barbaric cruelty; that it has illegally been keeping political prisoners behind bars for years; etc. Iran and Cuba called on the Us to close down its Quantanimo Bay prison, and to explore charges that Us soldiers torture civilians abroad. Russia urged the Us to abolish the death penalty; the most populist Muslim nation, Indonesia, criticized the Us of religious intolerance; Mexico lambasted the Us for racial profiling of brown-skinned citizens. Much of the commentary came from ideologue Americans, stridently requisite members of a "civil society", regular contributors of anti-Us articles to the Un Human possession Council. The targeting of the Us came about straight through the Council's "Universal Periodic Review", examining short-comings deemed excessive, in any place in the world.

The irony of the anti-Us litany is heightened by the approach to the Un Council taken by the Obama administration - in discrepancy to George W. Bush, who spurned the Council, as well as its predecessor (the Un Human possession Commission) because of its despotic membership and unbridled anti-Israel antagonism. Instead, the Obama administration offered an olive branch, seeking Us membership into the Council. The chance to lambaste the Us was apparently too good to waste.
